Sunday was a rough one for fans of the Cincinnati Bengals because they watched the Cincinnati Bengals play a football game.
It was the highly-anticipated debut of No. 1 overall draft pick Joe Burrow, an Ohio native handpicked by God to save the Bengals organization. His first NFL test was against the Riverless L.A. Chargers and it came down to Burrow with the ball in his hands on the final drive, down three.
Then came a Cincinnati tradition: the Bungling.
First it was the touchdown pass that wasn’t, a Burrow-Green connection for a game-winning score that got called back for offensive pass interference. With only seconds left on the clock, Burrow handed the game over to his kicker so he could go regroup for overtime.
The kicker did this…
It’s what Bengals fans call a fall Sunday afternoon.
They deserve better.
NFL Sunday was awesome otherwise.
Finally, some normalcy.
If only someone would employ Austin MacGinnis.
Kentucky is No. 23 in the AP Poll, No. 20 in the Coaches.
The Cats are a Top 25 team (with a little help from other teams not playing football) in both the AP and the Coaches Polls this week.
Here’s the bad news: five of UK’s opponents are ranked higher. Five, as in half of the entire schedule. UK will play AP No. 2 Alabama, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 Florida, No. 8 Auburn and No. 15 Tennessee.
Louisville is ranked 18th for unfathomable reasons.
The NBA is taking the day off for Monday Night Football.
Tomorrow night you’ll get the Heat and Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN, followed by the Nuggets and the Clippers in Game 7 for a spot in the Western Conference Finals.
Speaking of Monday Night Football…
Titan Up!
Super Bowl run starts tonight.
John Calipari may not get his Christmas this year.
Every December, John Calipari gets the gift that keeps on giving: a win over Louisville. This year, however, he may have to settle for socks. (Or a beard trimmer.)
Multiple conferences, one rumored to be the ACC, are considering a conference-only basketball schedule, which would mean no UK-Louisville game in the Bluegrass for the first time since 1982. It would also mean no Holiday Hoopsgiving at Georgia Tech (shucks) and the Champions Classic would need a replacement for Duke to keep it going in 2020.
That being said, this conversation will change with the wind and more conferences will consider the same, so trying to predict how it will impact the season now is a waste of your time and mine.
